Maintenance that keeps the network quiet.

Preventive inspections, OTDR fault location and repair, and technical advice for live fiber networks.

In short

What does fiber network maintenance cover?

Fiber network maintenance keeps a live network in service and its records accurate. City Networks combines scheduled inspections of routes, cabinets and closures with fault response: locating breaks with an OTDR, repairing and re-splicing, and re-testing before the link goes back into service. We also advise on upgrades, extensions and spare capacity.

How it works

Four steps, each one checked before the next.

  1. 01

    Agree

We agree the scope with you: which sites are covered, how often they are inspected, how faults are reported and how the response works.

  2. 02

    Inspect

Routes, chambers, cabinets and closures are checked for damage, water and dust ingress, heat stress and unrecorded changes.

  3. 03

    Repair

When a fault is reported, an OTDR trace locates it by distance, the crew repairs it, and the link is re-tested before it returns to service.

  4. 04

    Report

Every visit and repair is logged, so records stay accurate and recurring problems show up early.

FAQ

Maintenance & Technical Support: common questions.

All questions →

How is a break in a fiber cable located?

An OTDR is connected to the affected fiber and sends a pulse down it. The trace shows the distance to the break, which is matched against the route records to find exactly where to dig or which closure to open.

What causes most fiber network faults?

Excavation by third parties that cuts underground cable is one of the most common causes. Others include water or dust getting into closures, dirty or damaged connectors, and cables bent past their minimum radius during later work.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. We maintain networks under scheduled contracts and on a call-out basis. The scope, inspection frequency and response arrangements are agreed for each network.

Can you maintain a network you did not build?

Yes. We start by surveying and testing the network to establish its condition and correct the records, then maintain it as we would our own.
